I like to decorate with decorative balls. During the holidays, I use objects that represent the holiday for my decorative balls. For example, for Easter – Easter eggs, for Christmas – ornaments, for Halloween – Halloween colored ornaments, etc. We are in-between holidays so right now I have some spring and summer-ish decorations with pink, turquoise, and purple colors.
My “decorative ball bowl” has been sitting empty for the last couple of weeks and I decided to make some DIY fabric covered balls. According to The Party Dress, this trendy idea was used for Kathie Lee Gifford’s house for the holidays. If it’s cool enough for the host of the fourth hour of the Today Show (my favorite hour), then it’s cool enough for me!
With Mother’s Day right around the corner, I think this would be an easy gift idea you can make. You could match the fabric colors to your mom’s decor.

Fabric Covered Ball Instructions

Cut pieces of fabric approximately 1/2″ wide.

Wrap piece of fabric around Styrofoam ball and pin the end of the fabric into the Styrofoam ball.

Continue wrapping fabric strips around the ball.

Wrap fabric around the ball until it is completely covered.

Continue wrapping balls using different scraps of fabric. You could even use old clothing.

Do you decorate with decorative balls? Do you make them or buy them? I am always on the lookout for good ideas to make or cute balls I can buy from the store.

These look great – thanks for sharing the tutorial showing how you made them too.
