With spring right around the corner and warmer weather, I decided to put together some simple spring crafts today. Banners are an easy craft to make any holiday, season, or event more festive. This craft was very quick and easy and I was able to do it with supplies I had on hand.
DIY Book Page Garland Tutorial
The first step is to cut a template for the garland. I folded a piece of cardstock in half and cut a banner shape that was approximately 6 inches by 4 inches. Next, you use this template to trace the shape onto a page from an old book.
I used a book that we were going to throwaway because it was old and irrelevant. For best results, find pages that have text the full width and height of the page.
It is best to make your banner have an odd number of banner pieces. For my banner, I had 5 banner pieces.
The next step is to cut some flowers using cardstock. I used the poppy lever punch from Fiscars, but there are a lot of flower punches you could use. You could even create your own flower shapes using your Sillhouette cutter.
The next step is to use adhesive foam mounting squares to adhere the flowers to the book pages. I slightly folded the edges of the flower to give it additional dimension.
To give the banner some additional dimension and texture, I added some white buttons using glue dots.
Finally, punch some holes in the corner of the banner pieces and string some ribbon to connect the banner pieces together.
I love the contrast of the black and white and the unique variety of the text on each banner piece. This craft was super simple to put together and fun for a Saturday afternoon creative activity.
With the sun shining, warmer weather, and longer days – I am doing a happy dance! I even spent some time out in the yard today getting ready for the spring and summer. I saw some green plant leaves sneaking up through the ground!
