Summer Fun Activity Ideas

I love summer.  It is like a three month birthday party or holiday celebration.  Constant activities, friends, playing outside, great food, late nights, ice cream – everything about summer is fantastic.

Last year I created a summer bucket list.  We had a lot of fun looking at the activities and planning for the next event.  To celebrate summer and add to the fun this year, I created a summer fun activity board.

Instructions

Print your free printables onto card stock on your color printer.  Download the printables at the end of the post.

Cut the summer patterns to the appropriate size to fit the library book envelopes.  The patterns are slightly larger than the size of an envelope so there isn’t a white border around the envelope.  My frame was large enough to fit 12 envelopes.  Depending on the frame you choose, you may want to have more or less envelopes.  I created 16 different patterns so you can pick your favorite patterns.

Once your patterns are cut to the appropriate size, Mod Podge the pattern to the top of the envelope and let it dry.  I put the envelopes in between some books to dry so they would be flat when they were done drying.

I used an 18″x24″ frame.  I added  small nails to the perimeter of the frame.  Then I used bakers twine to create a line to hang the clothespins and envelopes.

I need to interrupt this tutorial to  give a shout out to the new Fiskars paper cutter I bought.  It is fantastic!  It has a wire line down the middle of it that allows you to see where you are cutting so you get a perfect line.  It is seriously smart.

Back to the tutorial…

Cut the summer activity cards to the appropriate size.  These are already sized to fit inside the envelope.  There are 12 different activities.  There are also some blank activity cards you can use to fill in your own summer activity ideas.

Punch a hole in the top of the activity cards.

Add a small piece of ribbon through the punched hole.  This will make it so you can pull the activity card out of the envelope with ease.

Stuff the activity card into the envelope and attach it to the bakers twine using a small clothespin.

Cut letters out of coordinating scrapbook paper to spell Summer Fun.  Attach the letters to a piece of string using scotch tape and tie the ends of the string to the nails on each side of the top of the frame to make a mini banner.

I used my Silhouette to make the letters, but you could also use scissors and an exacto knife to make your own letters.

That’s it!  This was a pretty easy, fun craft that will help make the summer a little more exciting.
