Monster Cupcakes

September 6, 2011 by Camille 22 Comments

Are you looking for some cute monster cupcake ideas?  These monster cupcakes were so much fun to decorate.  I may have died and gone to creative heaven.

My sister-in-law came over the night before Andrew’s birthday party and we got lost in decorating these cupcakes for his party.  If the kids hadn’t started getting restless, we may have baked a couple more dozen cupcakes and kept decorating.  It was serious fun.

I asked Andrew if he wanted a super hero themed birthday party or a monster themed birthday party and he chose to have a monster birthday party.  These would work perfectly for a Halloween party as well as a birthday party.  It would be a fun activity to decorate these cupcakes as a party activity.

Monster Cupcake Supplies

I took the easy road and made the cupcakes from a mix and used store bought frosting.  I used gel food coloring to get the vibrant frosting colors I wanted.  For decorations, we used a variety of candies, marshmallows, nuts, and other supplies on hand.  To maximize the candy decor options, I hit up the local Winco bulk foods section and ended up with the following candies:

  • Good and Plenty
  • Fruit Slices
  • Sliced Almonds
  • Mike and Ike
  • Pull and Peel Licroice
  • Gummy Life Savers
  • Candy Corn
  • Yogurt Covered Raisins
  • Chocolate Candy Coated Sunflower Seeds
  • Jelly Beans
  • Licorice Mix
  • Sour Punch Straws
  • Mini M&M’s
  • Mini Chocolate Chips
  • Sprinkles
  • Food Coloring Markers
  • Black Frosting

If you’re ever looking for a unique selection of candy in all size, shapes and colors, check out Candy Crate.  Another great place to find candy online is Amazon.com.

I couldn’t narrow down my favorite cupcakes for a close-up, so I decided to share them all!

Monster Cupcake Display Stand

These cupcakes were pretty much too cute to eat.  I displayed the cupcakes using a Wilton cupcake stand.  I’ve had so much decorating cupcake lately that I think I will get a lot of mileage out of this stand.
